Born in Edinburgh and educated at Newbattle Abbey College and the University of Stirling graduating with a BA in politics, philosophy, business law and economics. Worked In advice services and employability before managing a homeless persons unit in North Edinburgh.
First elected in 2006 in the Borestone by-election for the Scottish National Party.
Have served in various roles including SNP Group Leader for 12 years, Depute Council Leader, Portfolio Holder for Finance and Economy, Social Care and Chair of the Stirling and Clackmannanshire Health and Social Care Joint Board and Non-Executive Director of NHS Forth Valley from 2008-2012.
From 2017-2022 I served as Leader of Stirling Council publicly backing Stirling’s bid to become UK City of culture in 2025 demonstrating my involvement in local culture and civic development. I was instrumental in the development of the Stirling and Clackmannanshire City Region Deal and wider Regional Economic Development Initiatives.
Currently Chair of the Stirling and Clackmannanshire Health and Social Care Integrated Joint Board and a Non- Executive Director of NHS Forth Valley.
